The French words L'amour nous unis, which translate as love unites us, are reverse carved around two joined flaming hearts, atop a detailed plinth.
 
The two hearts together, represent two souls joining in love and the plinth represents support, lifting the hearts up together; plinths are considered to be strong and everlasting, usually the only remains of ancient structures.
